Family Day was created by the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University (CASA). It is a national effort to promote parental engagement as a simple and effective way to reduce youth substance abuse and raise healthier children. Family Day serves as a catalyst tohelp families make a change in their daily lifestyle and health choices
Research shows that families that eat together more often have children with:
- Less risk of drug, alcohol or tobacco use
- Lower suicide rates; less likely to have sex at young ages or be suspended from school
- Better school performance
- Better eating habits, less likely to be overweight
- Less likely to have eating disorders
- Stronger family bond and better family communication
- Improved vocabulary
